From Chaos to Confidence | Simplify Your Mornings and Reclaim Your Style
Simplify Your Mornings and Reclaim Your Style
Every morning, it’s the same routine. You jump out of bed and instantly switch into *everyone else mode*. What do they need today? Is there enough uniform? What’s for breakfast? Have they got their school bags, PE kits, or stuff for after school clubs?
Only when everyone’s sorted, do you turn to yourself—what to wear? You stare at the wardrobe and feel the dread creeping in. *Nothing feels right.* Does this sound familiar?
For a long time, this was me - here’s my story - I promise we do get to the good bit!
I have three small children—6, 5, and 3 years old—and a husband who works incredibly hard. He’s out the door early and rarely back for bedtime. Me being at home is an arrangement we agreed on, but that doesn’t make it any easier. With no family nearby the endless juggle of three little ones, I completely lost myself for a while.
What I liked to do, how I liked to look—it all faded away. I stopped getting my hair done, wore less and less makeup, and let the clutter in the house build up while I was trying to keep everything afloat. I kept buying new clothes to try to feel better, but did it really help? Probably not. I ended up with a wardrobe full of clothes and *nothing to wear*.
Before I had kids, I took real pride in my appearance. I loved bold, colourful outfits, perfectly styled hair, and makeup that made me feel put together. But after my first child, things slowly started to change. I felt so much pressure to keep up appearances that I held on for a while, but after my second pregnancy, I fell into the *stripy mum tops and leggings* phase of life.
It just wasn’t me.
I briefly went back to work whilst pregnant and rediscovered the joy of dressing up again. Putting outfits together gave me such a boost—it was a reminder of who I was outside of being a mum. But then maternity leave with two under two hit, and BOOM: leggings, joggers, oversized jumpers, and hair in a bun became my daily uniform. I didn’t feel like there was much point in wearing anything else.
When I tried to dress up, I felt completely lost. Nothing in my wardrobe felt like *me* anymore. Looking back, it makes me sad. I know so many women go through this, and it’s incredible how much having children impacts us in ways we don’t always expect.
And then…Covid. Like so many of us, I think I lost myself a bit during that time. Life felt on hold, everything was chaotic, and then came, after two losses, my final pregnancy. It wasn’t an easy one—I was quite ill—and when our third child was born, life with three under three was absolute carnage.
But something in me shifted.
I felt this deep need to find myself again. My love for fashion had always been there. From my early career in retail, I remember the pure joy of helping women feel amazing—especially when I nudged them out of their comfort zone into an outfit they’d never have picked on their own. That feeling of transformation and confidence always stuck with me, and I continued doing it for myself, friends, and family over the years. But when I became a mum, that passion got buried under everything else.
During those messy, overwhelming years of motherhood, I yearned for that feeling again. So, I made myself a promise: I’d find a way to bring it back—not just for myself but as part of my career.
Slowly, bit by bit, I worked through the motions of looking after myself again—hair, makeup, skincare, health. And woven into all of it was my happy place: clothing. I turned away from the boring, simple black clothes I’d been hiding in and embraced colour again. It started small—a red coat here, a bright jumper there—and then grew into bold statements like a beautiful yellow dress for an event. I loved how it made me feel.
Of course, nothing is ever perfect. I still had my wobbles, and there are days when I don’t want to be the bright, colourful one or think about building an outfit. But through trial and error, I’ve worked out solutions that fit real life. As a mum still in the thick of it, I’ve been able to test what actually works.
What do we need? We need organised spaces. We need to see what we have and know how it works together. We need confidence that everything in our wardrobe has a purpose and works hard for us. And we need to know how to bring new pieces into the mix without wasting time or money. Lets get real here I’m not saying that this is going to change your entire life but what I will say is that sorting this daily struggle for yourself isn’t a luxury its a necessity and one you will never regret doing for yourself. I’m now free of the dread of opening those wardrobe doors each and every day - I can find stuff quickly, I am confident where my gaps are what i’m looking for to fill them. I now enjoy getting dressed, shopping for new things and find it so much easier to move away from stuff that doesn’t work for me anymore!
